Section 4: How to do it

Tracie:  Section 4.  To be able to vote in an election, the first stage is to register.  We have forms here if you would like to do this.  It's very simple.  We can also take them away and post them for you.

Andrew:  Next time an election is happening, you will receive a poll card in the post.  It tells you the date of the election and where you go to vote.

Tracie:  We will show you a short bit from a DVD about what happened when Kenny got his poll card.

There are 9 different stages when you vote.  We will call out each stage and watch while you find the right picture card for each one.

Tracie:  Stage 1 - Register to vote.

Andrew:  Stage 2 - Receive the poll card.

Tracie:  Stage 3 - After 7am on the day of the election, go to the polling station.  This is where you vote.

Andrew:  Stage 4 - Collect your ballot paper.  This has the names of the people you vote for.

Tracie:  Stage 5 - Go into polling booth. This is a private place to vote.

Andrew:  Stage 6 - Put a cross on the ballot paper.

Tracie:  Stage 7 - Put your vote in the box.

Andrew:  Stage 8 - Polls close at 10pm.

Tracie:  Stage 9 - All the votes are counted.

Andrew:  OK.  Now mix all the cards up and put them back in the right order.
